Let’s start here: The Ford government is dealing with some legal woes this week. Perhaps most consequential for the provincial purse strings are the arbitration hearings with teachers for a remedy over wage-capping Bill 124.
Unions representing elementary and high school teachers negotiated a financial remedy after being held to paltry one-per-cent wage increases for three years. Many public sector workers, including health care and correctional workers, have been awarded a financial remedy from third-party arbitrators in the wake of the controversial legislation, which the government is still fighting to uphold in court.
Now, arbitration hearings for teachers have wrapped up and a decision looms — and educators are feeling optimistic.
