Premier DOUG FORD dropped a couple of stunning tidbits at his Thursday presser in Brampton. Here’s what you need to know:
On the possibility of amalgamation in Peel — as first reported by this newsletter: “The decision hasn’t been made” but Brampton isn’t “going to be shafted by Mississauga or anyone else” if the region is split, which is something Mississauga Mayor BONNIE CROMBIE is pushing for.
“Brampton and Mississauga are large cities that can stand alone…But I’ll guarantee you that Brampton will always be taken care of, always, and they’ll be made whole — and so will Mississauga and Caledon as well.”
To wit: Brampton Mayor PATRICK BROWN — who was also on hand for the announcement (re: upgrades at Bramalea GO) — has warned his city could lose $1 billion worth of infrastructure in the split.
“There is duplication,” Brown added.
