A new housing affordability bill?
Plus: LTC committee gets heated, new digital task force, poll says Ford headed for a minority
ABOVE THE FOLD
ALL ABOUT HOUSING — Housing is shaping up to be a major plank in the PCs reelection platform, and rumour has it legislation to tackle affordability is on the way.
It comes as Premier DOUG FORD and Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister STEVE CLARK invite Ontario’s 29 Big City Mayors and regional chairs to a special provincial-municipal summit on the housing affordability “crisis,” slated for December 16.
Clark announced the summit in a speech to the Empire Club yesterday, adding that he’ll also convene with rural municipal leaders in January. Later on, Ford said the goal is to come up with solutions to help “families to realize the dream of home ownership” — something the PCs also recently asked a special task force to look into.
Details are scant when it comes to what legislative moves the Ford government may take to address the matter, but insiders are pointing to the CBC’s scoop about PC-connected polling on housing affordability as a major hint.
