A proof-of-vaccination system is imminent, with a formal announcement detailing what has already leaked expected as early as today. I confirmed the deets with multiple sources — here’s what we know so far, and how it could play out.
— The timing: The rumour mill started churning hours after Liberal Leader JUSTIN TRUDEAU called on Premier DOUG FORD to “step up” with a provincial vax-pass — so much for that campaign-era truce — and as Trudeau promised $1 billion to help provinces develop and roll out such systems, if re-elected.
— The shape: Much remains a mystery. Ontario’s system is expected to mimic that of B.C. and Quebec — people would need to show they’ve had the jab to enter non-essential spots like bars and gyms, and events such as concerts and sports games.
