ABOUT LAST NIGHT — The Tories are two for two after last night’s byelections, handily holding on to Milton and Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. Here’s how the votes are playing out in all parties:
IN MILTON — By the numbers: Despite the polls pointing to a very tight race, PC ZEE HAMID blew the Liberals’ GALEN NAIDOO HARRIS out of the water, pulling 2,407 more votes and coming in at 47 per cent overall. Naidoo Harris clocked in at 38 per cent — that’s a wider margin compared to 2022, when the Liberals only lost by four percentage points.
The NDP scored 6.7 per cent and the Greens got 2.7 per cent.
The sleeper: The New Blue Party — a right-leaning Tory spinoff headed up by ex-PCs JIM and BELINDA KARAHALIOS — placed fourth behind the NDP, with 4 per cent.
Turnout: The number of folks who show up to vote in byelections tend to be relatively scant compared to the general, and this time in Milton was no different: 27 per cent.
