ABOVE THE FOLD

First in Observer — AD WATCH — Want to know how Ontario’s political parties are targetting you on social media? Then it’s time for another installment of our social media advertising watch, thanks to Facebook’s disclosures.

Swiping right: New Democrats and Greens are first out of the gate with a strong social media push.

For the NDP: It’s all about fresh blood. So far this year, the party took out ads pumping up their ANDREA HORWATH replacements: new leader MARIT STILES and rookie Hamilton Centre MPP SARAH JAMA.

“With Marit Stiles, everyday Ontarians have someone on their side, ready to win for more people. More opportunity, a fairer economy, and better solutions. That’s a future to look forward to,” reads the ad, featuring a clip of Stiles’s inaugural speech.

The target: As many as 1 million accounts and 200,000 impressions. Women aged 25 to 34 viewed it the most, followed by 35 to 44-year old women. The spend: $1,613 over the past week.
