YEEHAW! — MPPs will swap their blazers and ties for rubber boots and 10-gallon hats this week for the International Plowing Match & Rural Expo — a major event in Ontario politics.
Politicians are trekking to a tented city in Lindsay to court rural Ontarians and to hear from local representatives, while the party leaders hop on tractors to compete for who can plow the straightest furrow. In normal times, the House would break so MPPs can attend the big event, but since we’re on an extended summer recess for another three weeks — and with buzz of an early election at an all-time high — expect most provincial politicians to show up.
Top of mind for rural Ontario is something that’s pretty much front and centre for the rest of the province: housing.
