CIVIC CASH — Six municipalities are going under the microscope to suss out any “potential or perceived” financial hits from Bill 23.
To wit: That’s the Ford government’s hotly-contested law to scrap developer fees that municipalities rely on to pay for things that support new housing, such as roads and sewage infrastructure.
And the auditees are: Brampton, Mississauga, Newmarket, Caledon and Peel Region. Plus the City of Toronto, which we already knew about. It isn’t clear why those six were singled out.
For now, the government is kick-starting its hunt for third-party auditors. “Once the bidding and selection process is complete, the audits would be conducted later this year.”
