The other reason JUSTIN TRUDEAU’s bombshell resignation has plunged Ontario into chaos: it’s sparked a fresh wave of snap-vote speculation at Queen’s Park.

DOUG FORD isn’t exactly tamping down the rumours. Asked five times at an impromptu press conference to discuss the Trudeau situation, Ford repeatedly refused to close the door on the possibility of an early election in Ontario and stuck to his talking points about the tariff tango with DONALD TRUMP.

Between the lines: In fact, Ford’s initial emailed statement on Trudeau’s announcement didn’t specifically mention the Prime Minister, but focused on the simmering trade war with the States — something insiders say would provide Ford the rationale he needs to pull the trigger on an early election.

“I’m 100 per cent focused on the tariffs,” Ford maintained, dodging specific questions about the timing of the vote.
