And we’re back! Sort of. MPPs may not be back in the House until March 23 — a full five weeks later than planned — but don’t mistake the extended recess for quiet times.

This year is already shaping up to what could be one of the most pivotal years at Queen’s Park in recent memory. Power plays, pressure points, and a few wild cards are lining up fast, and yes, 2026 has the potential to out-chaos last year’s snap election. Here are some of the big storylines to watch.

For the Ford government…

Since winning his third majority mandate almost a year ago, Premier DOUG FORD has been seemingly obsessed with the happenings on the Hill and at City Hall — everything but provincial politics. He’s donned his Captain Canada cape and played bad cop to PM MARK CARNEY’s good cop amid the U.S. tariff war, and has meddled in municipal minutiae like speed cameras. But this year, there’s loads pulling him back to the provincial realm.
