POLL WATCH — As we close out the first week of the campaign, a steady stream of polls continue to suggest the PCs are sitting pretty and on track for a second mandate, while the Liberals are overtaking the NDP in the race for second place.
— The Tories are wading into majority territory (which they got in 2018 with roughly 41 per cent of the vote), thanks to a strong showing in the 416 and 905 — a seat-rich region which can make or break governments. Per Forum Research, the PCs turned up 38 per cent support in Toronto proper and 37 support in the 905.
— The Grits aren’t far behind, with 31 per cent of decided and leaning voters in Toronto saying they’d cast their ballots that way. Ditto 29 per cent of 905 voters.
— New Democrats are trailing with 25 per cent support in Toronto and 26 per cent in the surrounding 905 spots.
— The Greens fared better in the 905, with four per cent, versus three per cent in Toronto.
But the Grits may have an Achilles heel: their own captain …
