ENDGAME — After much teasing, MITZIE HUNTER says her last day at the Leg will be May 10.

Them’s the rules: That’s two days before Hunter would have been forced to resign her Scarborough—Guildwood seat in order to run for Mayor of Toronto. Unlike councillors, sitting MPPs and MPs can’t be civic candidates and must step down by the close of nominations.

Byelection, ho! Hunter’s resignation will trigger a byelection in semi-competitive Scarborough—Guildwood, which Hunter has held on to for the Grits since 2013.

Word on the street is Premier DOUG FORD could set the vote almost “immediately” and “very soon” after the seat is put into play.

Legally speaking, he’ll have to call a byelection within six months. The clock starts ticking next Wednesday.
