The Ford government is shielding itself from bike-lane related lawsuits while the Official Opposition attempts to expose ministerial fundraising quotas.
DRIVING A WEDGE — The debate over bike lanes rages on at Queen’s Park.
The latest: In a surprise move, and after dodging questions about whether they would amend Bill 212 at committee, the Ford government tweaked the fast-tracked legislation so that it’s protected from lawsuits if cyclists are injured or killed on streets where bike lanes were removed, namely on Bloor, Yonge and University.
NDPer JESSICA BELL said that’s “heartbreaking” because it suggests the PCs know their hot-potato policy could make roads more dangerous and they ““want to remove themselves from any responsibility if someone is injured or killed in the future.”
