POLL WATCH — Is BONNIE CROMBIE enjoying a popularity bump now that JUSTIN TRUDEAU is headed for the exit?

That’s one theory that’s emerged from a fresh Liaison Strategies poll that suggests the provincial Liberals are up three percentage points and would nab 30% support if an election were held today.

But that’s still not enough to catch DOUG FORD and the ruling PCs, who are sitting pretty with 40 per cent support. Another 21 per cent of respondents picked the NDP, four per cent backed the Greens and five per cent want an alternative.

Liaison’s pollster-in-chief DAVID VALENTIN noted the Liberals haven’t seen numbers like this since last spring. “This could be an outlier, a temporary bump or the start of a new trend. Since last year, the Liberals have struggled, sometimes polling as low as 26 per cent. Seeing them at 30 per cent is notable.”
