CONVENTION COUNT — Ontario PCs are talking turnout ahead of their Toronto convention at the end of the month — and quietly keeping expectations in check.

According to a memo sent to card-carrying members a few days ago, the party is sticking to its early-bird delegate fee of $299 (or $99 for youth), pitching the Toronto Congress Centre gathering as “accessible and affordable,” with “no planned increase.” More than 1,000 delegates have already RSVP’d, per the memo.

That’s a far cry from the nearly 2,000 delegates who packed the Ontario Liberals’ post-campaign convention last year — though the stakes were arguably higher then, because it featured a very consequential leadership review for BONNIE CROMBIE.

This time around, the PC Party executive, which oversees everything from riding associations to nominations to campaign prep to fundraising, is set to be acclaimed, with a slate led by party prez MICHAEL DIAMOND.
