UPPING THE ANTE — The Ford government is cracking down on the so-called grey market of internet gambling.

As of October 31, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario — the provincial gambling regulator — is bringing in a new standard to deal with unauthorized operators and ending the “transition period” for those going legit.

That means operators, including online sportsbooks, must stop taking bets by Halloween unless they’re fully registered with the AGCO “to avoid jeopardizing their eligibility for registration.”

Meanwhile, “live dealer” casino games — in which actual people lay out the cards or spin a roulette wheel — are “growing” in popularity, so the AGCO is setting a new standard to address “the potential risks related to the use of physical gaming equipment.”

Nearly two dozen operators …
