SWAN SONGS — Outgoing MPPs got the chance to bid adieu to the Legislature during a special debate. Emotional and candid, their final speeches were brimming with tales of political ups and downs and kudos to their colleagues, constituents and staff. The highlights, in speaking order:
— NORM MILLER (Parry Sound—Muskoka) gushed about his dad, former MPP and PC premier FRANK MILLER, while wearing the tartan blazer made famous by the elder Miller.
— PERCY HATFIELD, longtime New Democrat rep for Windsor—Tecumseh, rhymed his entire farewell speech — a signature move.
— Health Minister and Deputy Premier CHRISTINE ELLIOTT (Newmarket—Aurora) gave a special shout-out to frontline health workers.
— NDPer RIMA BERNS-MCGOWN (Beaches—East York) spoke about the struggle with being a “deeply introverted” person in politics, something she cited when announcing she’d be a one-term MPP.
