First in Observer — POLE POSITION — Middle East politics has once again reached its tentacles around Queen’s Park, and this time, the drama is swirling around the South Lawn flagpole.
Next week, the Palestinian flag would have been hoisted on the courtesy pole, but a little birdie tells me the PCs quietly nixed the plan. The NDP and the Liberals were on board (some insist the Grits “needed some convincing,” but senior Liberals swear they were “on side” from the get-go).
But thanks to Speaker DONNA SKELLY’s new rules, which require all three recognized parties to unanimously greenlight guest flag-raisings — one veto means no flag, no ceremony and no moment for that community.
