The Finance Minister is readying a tariff-era war chest while the Premier fired off a wish list to the Prime Minister that includes — you guessed it! — a tunnel under the 401. DOUG FORD wants “nation-building” infrastructure. PETER BETHLENFALVY wants a fortress economy. Both are betting big on made-in-Ontario policies as we stare down a tariff war with the States. Let’s break it down.

There’s a tax credit for that: Bethlenfalvy offered a peek at his upcoming spring budget that’s all about sending a message to Washington — and to manufacturers and businesses dealing with the tariff fallout.

Bethlenfalvy confirmed an expansion of the Ontario manufacturing tax credit, which will go from a rate of 10 per cent to 15. It can be used by Canadian-controlled businesses located in Ontario for machinery, equipment or buildings used for manufacturing.

The idea is to blunt the impact of trade tensions with the U.S.
