While you were sleeping, DONALD TRUMP made good on his tariff threat, triggering a trade war and ushering in an era of uncertainty. For Premier-elect DOUG FORD, it’s out of the frying pan and into the fire as Ontario drafts its budget and prepares counter-measures.
Fresh off Thursday’s election win (which he had hoped would be bigger), Ford held his first presser at the big mining conference in Toronto, where he weighed in on everything from the tariff situation to the size of his cabinet.
On the tariff-fighting plan: Ford is threatening to shut down movement of Ontario’s electricity and critical minerals to the U.S. “I’ll fight tooth and nail. I’m not going to roll over and get annihilated.” He’s also looking at “Buy Ontario” legislation that would require retailers to highlight Canadian-made products.
Ford went fisticuffs on NBC’s Meet The Press, saying Trump has to pull back on tariffs, otherwise auto plants in Michigan could grind…
