ABOVE THE FOLD
FORD’S DIGS — Even for the Premier in charge of real estate policy — it’s a tough market for home sellers.
DOUG FORD’s Etobicoke house was listed in mid-July — first reported by Queen’s Park Observer — for nearly $3.2 million. Just two weeks later, the asking price has plummeted to $2,800,888 — almost $400,000 less.
Ford, who is moving into his late mother’s home — the site of many a Ford Fest — is experiencing what most home sellers are right now: major price declines amid aggressive interest rate hikes. Canada is dealing with a major housing correction, and RBC recently warned that average house prices could drop by 14 per cent.
Ford’s digs — a 4,500-square foot detached house with an in-ground pool — has been targeted by pandemic protesters over the last two years, something the Premier says frustrated his neighbours, but is not the reason why they’re moving.
