FORD HOLDS FORTH — Premier DOUG FORD laid out the latest on the health care funding deal with the feds, bail reform and more while in Brampton Wednesday.
The highlights:
— On the health deal: Don’t hold your breath for fresh bilateral agreements on the Canada Health Transfers. Ford echoed Prime Minister JUSTIN TRUDEAU, saying “we obviously weren’t going to strike a deal” when the first ministers sit down in Ottawa on February 7 — “but we should be striking a deal shortly thereafter.”
“We can’t keep dragging this on when we’re all feeling pressure on health care,” Ford told reporters. “The premiers, the federal government — they just want to get a deal.”
The pre-game: Finance ministers from across the country will meet with their federal counterpart, Deputy PM CHRYSTIA FREELAND, tonight and Friday, setting the stage for next week’s health talks. It kicks off with a “working dinner” at 7 p.m.
