First in Queen’s Park Observer — BILLS, BILLS, BILLS — A pair of mystery bills are en route this week.
House Leader PAUL CALANDRA teased two government bills that are poised for first-reading debate on Wednesday and Thursday — but he’s keeping them close to the vest for now.
A big hint: Heavily teased housing legislation aimed at boosting affordability and based on a report from the government’s special task force will soon be on the docket. Among the 55 recommendations: Building 1.5 million new homes over 10 years by dramatically increasing density.
Sources have long told Queen’s Park Observer the legislation will cover everything from speeding up local approvals processes to ending so-called NIMBY-ism. Mayors, meanwhile, are wary about forking over more power to the province.
Expect to hear more from Housing Minister STEVE CLARK
