Ontario got its fair share of drama to close out the first week of the federal election. And it ain’t over yet, so let’s get to it.
BOMBSHELL I — DOUG FORD has been playing nice with MARK CARNEY and the Star’s got the skinny on one possible reason why: the federal Grits have a double-digit lead over the Tories in battleground Ontario, according to internal PC polling.
By the numbers: “Carney’s Liberals were at 48 per cent public support while [PIERRE] POILIEVRE Tories were at 33 per cent, JAGMEET SINGH’s New Democrats at 11 per cent and the Greens of co-leaders ELIZABETH MAY and JONATHAN PEDNEAULT at four per cent.”
That’s a huge gap — and it seemed like a much tighter race earlier in the month, when PC insiders with knowledge of internal polling suggested Ontario was shaping up to be a “battleground” as Carney gained steam.
