GREENBELT PROBES — It’s a double-header for the Greenbelt. Both Auditor General BONNIE LYSYK and Integrity Commissioner J. DAVID WAKE are launching investigations into the Ford government’s hot-potato move to carve up the protected lands.
The scope: Wake’s investigation will look into Housing Minister STEVE CLARK’s actions based on a complaint from incoming NDP leader MARIT STILES. Stiles asked Wake to dig into what she called “curious timing of recent purchases of Greenbelt land by powerful landowners with donor and political ties to the Ontario PC Party.”
She’s worried developers were tipped off that the Greenbelt was about to become very lucrative.
“The whole point of this is to shine a light in some of the dark corners, to see whether or not anything has actually been conducted improperly,” she told reporters.
