LABOUR PEACE IN OUR TIME — Ontario’s littlest scholars won’t have to deal with strike action for the next three years, thanks to a new tentative agreement between their teachers’ union and the province.
The fine print is still being hammered out — here’s what we know, and what it means for schools and beyond.
Details are scant. Education Minister STEPHEN LECCE is keeping tight-lipped for now, noting that outstanding issues will be sorted out by a third-party arbitrator. In exchange, the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario is promising no strike action over the life of the four-year agreement. Union members will see specifics on Thursday, with a ratification vote to follow. Until then, details are under wraps.
