If the Opposition parties had their way, it would be a summer of committee study. Under the microscope is the Lobbyists Registration Act — which is being studied by the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly.
However, at an ad-hoc meeting late last month to lay out its statutory review, the PCs rejected an NDP amendment to suss out the parameters over the summer recess. Instead, the governing Tories decided to take the next two months to think about it for the fall — allowing them to spend more time on the BBQ circuit in their ridings.
“We believe the members of the committee should have the summer to consider how the study should proceed, and the committee can continue its work come September,” PC MPP CHRISTINA MITAS told her fellow committee members. “Last summer there were significant sittings of the House and our committees, and this will allow all members to focus on work in our ridings over the next two …
