ABOVE THE FOLD

BILLS, BILLS, BILLS — Heavily teased legislation to overhaul the troubled long-term care sector could get clearer this week as LTC Minister ROD PHILLIPS is up this morning to talk about “accountability, enforcement, and transparency” — the oft-repeated themes surrounding the changes.

A source says Phillips will unveil proactive inspections with more investigators.

That would also be the second majorly teased piece of legislation to drop this week — after Labour Minister MONTE MCNAUGHTON’s Bill 27, the Working for Workers Act, an omnibus bill aimed at expanding labour protections.

That includes a right-to-disconnect policy and a ban on non-compete clauses for employees. More tidbits that already leaked: Giving delivery workers access to bathrooms where they deliver, cracking down on temp agencies, and making it easier for foreign-trained newcomers to join their profession in the province.
