For all the low-hanging fruit and labour peace the Ford government has offered workers — (we’re now on our fifth iteration of Working For Workers legislation and have inked contracts with many key public sector groups) — unions are pushing back on several fronts.
IN THE CLASSROOM — Tot teachers aren’t happy about the government’s new code of conduct rules, saying they were not properly consulted beforehand.
What the union says: The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario has launched a formal complaint with the labour board, claiming the province acted in bad faith, “despite having committed to a collaborative process.”
Union prez KAREN BROWN said ETFO had two brief meetings with the province to discuss the code, and despite them agreeing to a third meeting, the government unilaterally brought in the changes without consulting teachers.
