Premier DOUG FORD is leaning into his law-and-order strategy with a crackdown on immigration fraud and is bringing his fellow first ministers on side with his call for a bilateral trade deal with the U.S., Mexico be damned. But first: a fresh red-tape reduction package has hit the Clerk’s table — and it’s a doozy.

BILLS, BILLS, BILLS — Bill 227, the Cutting Red Tape, Building Ontario Act, from Minister MIKE HARRIS JR. deals with a smorgasbord of issues, from election campaign finances to the backlogged Landlord and Tenant Board.

Highlights:

— When it comes to filing receipts to Elections Ontario, the government wants to allow the Chief Electoral Officer to forgive “longstanding amounts owing to the CEO by any registered political entity in Ontario prior to January 1, 2017.” That includes a political party, constituency association, nomination contestant, candidate or leadership contestant.
