LEAKED: The memo Liberals won't want you to see
Internal GOTV strategy reveals misfires on key ridings
ABOVE THE FOLD
The First Ministers huddled on Day 2 of the Council of the Federation — just hours after MARK CARNEY had a sleepover at DOUG FORD’s Muskoka cottage. And yes, as sleepover tradition demands, they stayed up talking into the wee hours.
But first: leak alert in Liberal land.
EXCLUSIVE — TARGETING TIGHT RACES (OR NOT) — Ahead of BONNIE CROMBIE’s post-election leadership review, I got my hands on a digital memo from senior campaign operative MILES HOPPER showing where the party deployed resources on E-Day — and it’s not exactly the nail-biter ridings you might expect.
Some organizers are calling it an “extreme misallocation of resources” and questioning decision-making by campaign brass, saying they prioritized Crombie’s survival over winnable seats. The party, however, insists this was just one of many get-out-the-vote communications (though they couldn’t name the other target seats).
But with Crombie on a low-key mea culpa tour this summer, acknowledging that mistakes were made during the February campaign — insiders aren’t exactly cutting her slack.
Here’s a riding-by-riding breakdown of where Hopper deployed the troops — and where they maybe should have gone instead, including one seat the Liberals wound up losing by a mere 23 votes.
