The Legislature is on pause until pumpkin spice season.
DOUG FORD’s PCs peaced out of the Legislature after a whirlwind spring session on Thursday, adjourning until October 20 — meaning MPPs will get 20 weeks off from House duty (barring any emergency returns).
It also means Oppo critics won’t get a chance to hold the Ford government’s feet to the fire in Question Period — and they ain’t happy about it, calling the extended recess an accountability dodge.
Salt in the wounds: This long break comes on the heels of a 35 per cent pay bump and new pension plan for MPPs, which might not be the best optics as Premier DOUG FORD waxes poetic about the urgency of fending off U.S. tariffs.
The government’s line: PC House Leader STEVE CLARK defended the move by saying it was an “ambitious” six-week sitting after the election, and it’s time to implement the 10 newly enshrined laws, not debate them.
