GRIT GRAB-BAG — After doling out headline-grabbing platform goodies — or gimmicks, as their opponents suggest — piecemeal, the Liberals are releasing their full-on pitch to voters this morning.
What’s in it: Queen’s Park Observer has confirmed what already leaked out — that ODSP rates would rise by 20 per cent over the next two years, should STEVEN DEL DUCA take the leader’s seat.
As it stands, disability benefits max out at $1,169 a month for a single person, which is supposed to help them cover rent, food, clothing and the like — but doesn’t go far enough, advocates say. Folks living with disabilities also have their benefits clawed back by 50 per cent if they earn more than $200 a month.
The pitch: Team Del Duca wants to raise the monthly payout to about $1,400 by 2023, which would cost the treasury $1.2 billion. Recipients would also be able to earn more before the clawback, to $6,000 a year.
The platform is also expected to be fully costed.
