Fresh data suggests wannabe Liberal leadership contenders are dealing with a name-recognition nightmare as one heavyweight bows out of the race.
CRAWLEY QUITS — MIKE CRAWLEY (no, the other one) says he won’t join the race to replace BONNIE CROMBIE as Grit captain.
“After taking time to carefully discuss the OLP leadership with my family one last time and a final personal reflection, I have made the very difficult decision to not move forward with launching a leadership campaign,” Crawley said in a statement to supporters.
Crawley, a former federal Liberal Party president, was seen as someone who could give presumed frontrunner NATE ERSKINE-SMITH a run for his money. He says he had already recruited 150 volunteers, had 300 signatures ready to endorse his candidacy, and saw hundreds come out for his New Year’s Levee party earlier this year (one insider put the attendee list at 200).
