Good Thursday morning. This is Queen’s Park Observer.

A big question swirling around the Park — will Ontario enter Step 2 of reopening earlier than planned on July 2? Yesterday’s edition mused about that, and Premier DOUG FORD was asked about it later on that afternoon.

The answer leaves it wide open: “I’ll be sitting down with the health table and Dr. Williams and we’ll make that decision,” Ford said, adding that he “can’t wait” to bring more of the province back to life.

Mayors and businesses say it’s about time — especially when it comes to the longest-shuttered services like hair salons and barber shops. Brampton Mayor PATRICK BROWN wrote to Ford and held a presser this week to call for the earlier reopening of personal care services, saying haircuts are happening in backyards and garages. “You have to call a spade a spade…lockdowns across the province have led to an underground market,” he said.
