ROUND 2 ON THE STUMP — For some failed provincial candidates, it’s out of the frying pan and into the fire.

As Friday’s deadline to sign up to run for municipal office came, so too did many familiar faces. Here’s who joined the roster:

— The competition for mayor may have eased up in Vaughan, as former Liberal MP DEB SCHULTE is no longer running. Schulte — who would have been tough competition for ex-Grit leader STEVEN DEL DUCA in particular, not least because they could have split the Liberal vote — withdrew from the race to replace MAURIZIO BEVILACQUA, who isn’t running again, because her cancer has returned and she’ll be undergoing new treatment. Del Duca joins fellow ex-provincial party captain, now mayoral candidate ANDREA HORWATH, who’s running for Hamilton mayor.
