With days to go before Ontarians head to the polls, we finally got a peek at what the frontrunner PCs are pitching in a full platform — er, sort of.
The PCs platform clocks in with $40 billion in promises, but much of that had already been announced, including billions in tariff-fighting relief funds.
Seeing red: Speaking to reporters Monday, DOUG FORD acknowledged that if DONALD TRUMP slaps Canada with tariffs, it’s unlikely the government could balance the books anytime soon. That tracks with what other provinces have been saying as they bake-in budget contingency plans.
What’s new: Booze news! A late-in-the-game populist-minded goody that would scrap the minimum retail price for liquor. The floor price for spirits is based on volume and alcohol content and is indexed to inflation. Getting rid of the minimum price would allow retailers to be more competitive and give consumers more choice, Ford said. It smacks of his Buck-a-Beer pledge from 2018, which turned out to be …
