It’s the last (scheduled) sitting day of the fall session and MPPs are going out with a bang. Barring any last-minute legislative theatrics, they won’t return to the House for Question Period, debates, and lawmaking proceedings until after the Family Day long weekend on February 22.
But there are still fireworks to be had. Here’s what to expect:
SHOW AND TELL AT LAURENTIAN — MPPs will join forces to request a “Speaker’s warrant” to compel the release of documents from Laurentian University.
It’s a rare step — prompted by the Public Accounts Committee, which has been studying the Sudbury-based school’s insolvency and creditor protection process. But the committee hasn’t had much luck examining Laurentian’s books — even after enlisting Auditor General BONNIE LYSYK, who is fighting in court for the documents in the hopes of shedding light on what led to the institution’s financial crisis.
