ABOVE THE FOLD
TRADE MISSION STATESIDE — Premier DOUG FORD is off to Washington today to pump up cross-border trade.
Sources say he’ll also tease legislation aimed at keeping trade flowing in cases where protests could block critical infrastructure, a la the Ambassador Bridge blockade.
— The agenda: Ford’s schedule is jam-packed. He’s got meetings with President JOE BIDEN’s under secretary of commerce for international trade MARISA LAGO, assistant U.S. trade rep for the western hemisphere DANIEL WATSON, and KIRSTEN HILLMAN, Canada’s Ambassador to the U.S.
— The entourage: Economic Development and Trade Minister VIC FEDELI will be in tow. The pair will also take part in a roundtable event put on by the Canadian American Business Council, featuring opening remarks from Ford.
— The message: No to Buy American, yes to investing in Ontario. Ford says he’ll advocate against “harmful protectionist policies” and “re-affirm that Ontario is a safe and reliable jurisdiction” to do business.
