ABOVE THE FOLD
Breaking last night — STELLANTIS SETTLES — Windsor, rejoice!
Stellantis has inked a deal with Ottawa and Ontario to keep its planned EV battery plant — to the tune of $15 billion in subsidies.
It closes the chapter on a months-long stalemate that saw the automaker pause construction as it pushed for a bigger slice of the subsidy pie a la Volkswagen.
More: “Economic Development Minister VIC FEDELI told the Globe and Mail on Wednesday the deal will be worth ‘up to $15-billion,’ with Ontario footing one-third of the bill as planned. He called the agreement a ‘historic new auto pact’ that recognizes the challenges posed by the Inflation Reduction Act in the U.S., which he said would have put an end to Ontario’s new auto opportunities.”
