Lots of action at Queen’s Park today. The Ford government will table a mini-budget with fiscal goodies for motorists and more — but a few controversies are creeping in, threatening to steal the provincial treasurer’s thunder. Let’s dig in.
HAPPY FES DAY — Finance Minister PETER BETHLENFALVY will introduce the Fall Economic Statement this afternoon.
As is unwritten custom, the PCs teased one of the good-news nuggets that they want splashed across headlines: extending the gas tax cut.
The summer-era 5.7 cents per litre cut, which was set to expire December 31, will be in place for another year. That “will mean the average household will save $195,” Premier DOUG FORD told reporters Sunday morning at a gas station on his home turf in Etobicoke. “We know that every dollar helps.”
The new legislation will also slash the cost of diesel by 5.3 cents per litre.
