OPPO LINKS UP — A motley crew of Opposition and union leaders are joining forces on a list of Omicron-fighting demands for the Ford government.
The presser goes down on Zoom at 9 a.m. this morning featuring NDP Leader ANDREA HORWATH, Liberal Leader STEVEN DEL DUCA, Green captain MIKE SCHREINER, SEIU Healthcare union president SHARLEEN STEWART and CUPE’s Hospital Unit president MICHAEL HURLEY.
The list of demands: The New Democrats want the PCs to “recall the legislature and act urgently to address Ontario’s health care staffing crisis.” That includes repealing controversial Bill 124, which caps public-sector wage increases at one per cent for three years — highly criticized (and legally challenged) especially during pandemic-era staffing crunches.
The NDP also want the PCs to pass their backbench proposal to bring in more permanent paid sick days. The same goes for supports for small businesses during the latest lockdown — which the government says is coming.
