When the House reconvenes on October 4, the price of admission will be proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test. That’s the latest directive from Speaker TED ARNOTT, stipulating that “everyone seeking to enter the Legislative Precinct” will have to oblige, or possibly be barred — including at least two unvaccinated MPPs.
That would be RICK NICHOLLS — a Deputy Speaker who was booted from the PC caucus for refusing his shot — and CHRISTINA MITAS — who was given a valid-yet-undisclosed medical exemption, per the government.
The blowback: Independent MPP BELINDA KARAHALIOS — who co-founded the Tory spinoff New Blue Party after getting turfed from the PC bench for voting against the sweeping pandemic emergency Bill 195 — called it “a disgraceful and undemocratic ruling that sets a dangerous precedent.”
