FROM THE SCRUM — After the meeting with PM MARK CARNEY in Ottawa, Premier DOUG FORD said he isn’t packing his bags for D.C. just yet, but when the time comes, he’ll be down there giving DONALD TRUMP’s Commerce Secretary HOWARD LUTNICK “a little poke.”
Closer to home, Ford threw some (unsurprising) shade at his federal Tory cousins, calling on Conservative Leader PIERRE POILIEVRE to “work with the Prime Minister” if he wins today’s by-election: “It’s Team Canada.” (As expected, Poilievre won and will be back on the Hill.)
On trade, Ford and Carney are “united” in trying to make Canada “the most competitive market in the G7” by cutting taxes and red tape. Surprise, surprise, he even tossed the PM some love: “He’s doing an incredible job…a very good job in my opinion.”
Still, no big policy breakthroughs to report — just Ford promising a “great discussion” and a “great partnership.”
