FORD FREESTYLES — Oppo critics may not be getting their chance at asking DOUG FORD questions during this prolonged winter recess, but reporters got another chance to grill the Premier in an impromptu scrum at Queen’s Park about — you guessed it! — the state of the tariff war with the U.S. (and then some).

It’s not surprising: Ford’s Captain Canada shtick has worked for him politically, especially during last year’s snap election, but that’s not to say the stakes are still sky-high for Ontario. Here’s what you need to know.

Despite the U.S. Supreme Court striking down certain tariffs, there’s still loads of uncertainty for Ontario’s industries, levies for which remain virtually untouched. That includes steel, aluminum and autos.

Ford said it’s thrown a wrench into CUSMA negotiations and noted that countries that are already looking for refunds or reductions got “screwed.” After all, “no deal is better than a bad deal.”
