BONNIE CROMBIE just hit fast forward on her departure — and it’s not exactly the smooth transition the Liberals originally telegraphed.
Crombie had said she’d stay on until a new leader was chosen. Instead, she’s bowing out before the party has even landed on the rules or a timeline for the race to replace her — a quiet acceleration that’s raising eyebrows both inside and outside party lines.
Officially, OLP says both the leadership framework and a pick for interim leader are coming soon. Parliamentary leader JOHN FRASER has been a familiar placeholder — he stepped in after both KATHLEEN WYNNE and STEVEN DEL DUCA — but the bigger story is what pushed Crombie to the exit now.
While she’s framing the decision as personal (new year, new chapter; plus a grandchild incoming), multiple Liberal sources tell me the pressure was mounting.
