First in Queen’s Park Observer — THE FINE PRINT — More details of the Ford government’s forthcoming “strong mayor” system have leaked, including where and when it will come into force for other cities.
— According to our sources, the system — in which the mayor of the day will have veto powers that can only be overruled by a two-thirds council vote — will come to other cities and towns with a population over 100,000 as a “pilot” six months after the October 24 municipal elections.
— Other municipal reforms will also hit the table when Municipal Affairs Minister STEVE CLARK introduces the requisite legislation next month — but there’s no word yet on what exactly those changes could be.
