ABOVE THE FOLD
POWER TRIP — It wouldn’t have been the Friday before a long weekend without some hot news-y item, and ex-Energy minister TODD SMITH delivered.
The former longtime MPP for Bay of Quinte — who abruptly resigned for a mystery private sector job roughly two weeks after being shuffled into the Education file — revealed his next gig: CANDU Energy’s new VP of marketing and business development.
The nuclear company says Smith will be pumping up energy on the global stage and that he’s cleared the role with Integrity Commissioner J. DAVID WAKE “to ensure compliance with the recommendations and restrictions” governing an MPP’s post-political life.
Smith may not be the only Tory looking for the exit as the PCs ramp up candidate nominations (scooped here) ahead of a possible early election next spring.
