Developing story — WILDCAT STRIKE: After negotiations collapsed, CUPE’s 55,000 school support staff are set to illegally walk off the job today despite the Ford government ramming through controversial legislation imposing a contract and hefty fines for striking scofflaws.

Bill 28 is now law after clearing a fast-tracked process Thursday afternoon. NDP MPPs sang Solidarity Forever as they voted against it at second reading. Premier DOUG FORD wasn’t in the House for the vote. CUPE members shouted “shame” from the public galleries as PCs voted in favour. Regardless, it received Royal Assent moments after third reading.

Cue protests. Rallies go down at Queen’s Park in Toronto today. Ditto at MPP offices across the province — where Oppo politicians say they’ll offer coffee and donuts to picketers in solidarity, despite it now being an illegal strike.
