SPA DAZE II — The Austrian spa company looking to help revive Ontario Place is giving more public space after much criticism.

The proposal: Vienna-based company Therme Group has offered up fresh plans that include nearly 12 acres of publicly accessible space, including parkland, a beach, a pier, walkways and gathering spots.

MARK LAWSON, Therme Canada’s vice-president of communications and external relations — and a former chief of staff to Ontario’s Finance Minister — said the company tweaked its original design after consultations with the city. The group also informed its new plans with input from the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, focus groups and city planners.

“Having signed a long-term ground lease at Ontario Place, we are delivering on our commitment to create an iconic, global attraction along with new privately funded and maintained public space that will allow everyone to enjoy Ontario Place year-round,” Lawson sai…
